Christmas is irritating
Christmas itself is fine. It's a good chance to have fun with family/friends, have some good food, play games, whatever. It's a good time. Conversely and contrary to what some songs might tell you, the month leading up to Christmas is the most obnoxious time of the year.
I'm not a big fan of the cold and snow to begin with, but combine that with the stress everyone feels, whether they admit it or not, from having to make everything perfect, and you end up with everyone in everyone else's way for a whole month. Between people rushing around looking for the perfect gifts for people, amassing their ingredients for the perfect Christmas dinner, and not knowing how to drive in the snow (it happens every year, you'd think people would figure it out by now, but nobody really does, myself included), God help you if you just need to run to the store for a loaf of bread for the week.
I'm also not convinced that reserving 1/12th of the year for the spirit of giving is a good plan. I suppose I can see some merit in theory, but really I think it only serves to marginalize the idea and stress everybody out. I think a better alternative would be to encourage the idea of giving small gifts throughout the year, like maybe I was walking through the mall in March and I saw a jacket I thought you'd like, so here you go and now we have a nice little moment together. But the way it is now, everyone just puts that kind of thing off until the end of the year and then freaks out because Christmas is next week and I don't have anything to give anyone and I can't possibly afford the KitchenAid for Andy and that old Fisher Price castle I wanted to get my dad from ebay!!
It's obnoxious.
Anyway, in light of the season and this whole rant I've just written, my sign off might seem contradictory and difficult to take to heart, but really just do your best, man.
Take it easy!
