Just pretend I posted this yesterday

I've posted before about not having any time and being frustrated about that, and that hasn't really gotten better lately. However, Alu and I are planning on starting the South Beach diet soon. We would have started it at the beginning of February, but the way our paychecks are distributed is somewhat prohibitive, so we should be doing the shopping and prep for the first week EXACTLY ONE WEEK FROM TODAY, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30 (wink).

We're hoping eating better food will give us more energy and more drive to do more with the disparate bits of time we do have, which, hopefully, should make us happier and give us more energy and drive, etc. The first two weeks are supposed to be the biggest hurdle, as it's meant to reorient your body toward eating healthier over the long term by cutting out sugar and carbs almost entirely, thereby (supposedly) eliminating, or at least greatly reducing the cravings that make you eat too much of them. Over the following two weeks or so, specific types of carbs from whole grains and fruits and such are slowly reintroduced. After that, they are still relatively limited so that you continue to lose weight until you reach your end goal. At that point, you're free to eat whatever you'd like, but the idea is that you continue to make better food choices for the rest of your life.

I'm pretty excited to get through the first phase and see how we feel after that.

We've also been thinking more and more about getting to move into our own apartment in a few months and looking forward to having our own space. The kitchen is an especially big deal. We're hoping that since it will be more accessible since we'll likely be in the living areas more, and less cluttered since it's only our stuff, it will help us cook more and keep things cleaner. This should, in turn, compliment our hopefully better diet choices.

We've also been slowly hoarding kitchen accessories to be opened once we move, such as a new knife set, a nice new set of pots and pans and a very nice stand mixer, so I'm super stoked about that.

Outside the kitchen, having the living room to ourselves will make it easier to have our bedroom be reserved for bedular activity such as sleep instead of just being in there at all times. I've been given to understand that this often helps people sleep better, as the brain associates the space more strongly with bedtime.

And to add to the excitement of moving, by the time we're in our new place, we should be finished with our machining course and can start looking for better jobs! I've been enjoying class a lot; it's fun to wrap my head around the idea of cutting and shaping metal, something that normally seems so final.

So basically, July should be rad.

But for now, take it easy!
