Cats and Dogs and Humans and Similarities
Lately I have noticed our cat, Monty, only reacts to us yelling at him when he is doing something we often tell him not to. So if he is on the counter looking for food, if we make a loud noise not even directed at him he will jump off the counter and race to somewhere he can act like he was doing something he can be doing. But if he is just sitting on the ground and we yell at him directly he might not even react and if he does it might just be to look at us and give us the "Are you just going to stand there and not pet me."
I am bringing this up because today whilst thinking of blog topics I could write about I started thinking I do those same things at work and to a lesser extent at home. When I am doing things at work when I shouldn't be I will minimize browsers quickly and often, especially if I think I hear or see someone who might notice. But when I can have browsers up and be doing things, I often don't react to people walking by, and if I do it is just to see who walked by.
So I have spent the past little while thinking about other similarity between me and my cat. We both get very loud and possibly even angry when hungry, we require attention and will get upset if we don't get it, we will also get upset if we get to much attention and it is unwanted, we both like warm spots where we can lay down and do nothing. And I think, while writing this blog, I have figured out why cats are characterized as females and dogs as males, at least they have been in my experience. E.g.. "Cute dog what is his name?" "Your cat is so fluffy, can I pet her?" Type of thing. The reason I think that is is because all of the things I listed I feel are characteristically female things, and of course that is a broad generalization and not accurate to all lot if not most women, but that goes for calling all cats female as well.
And I think dogs characteristics are often characteristics more likely to be attributed toward males. They are messy, and will destroy everything if you let them. They are carefree as long as the have space to run, food to eat, and a place to sleep. They will also hump everything they see move and sometimes things that don't. And once again yes I know these are not strictly male traits, and just like with huge generalizations they don't apply to everyone, or possibly anyone these days. And similarly to cats not all being female, not all dogs are male. That wouldn't make ant sense.
So those are my thoughts on some things that I didn't think I would be thinking about today. But if you agree or disagree tell me about it and maybe we can come to a better understanding or we can change one another's mind on some things. We can only wait and see now. So while I think more on the subject, please:
Stay cool!
