Fascinating Minutiae

A few years ago, I watched a gameplay demo for a new MMO (I think it was Black Desert Online, but who can remember?) which involved a very meticulously created female player character nimbly dispatching a large group of monsters or barbarians or something on a mountainside. Once the enemies were all taken care of, the character sauntered over to a ledge and sat down with her legs hanging down over the ledge. I was quite impressed by the animation, but quickly began wondering whether someone who was less familiar with video games would be similarly impressed. "Well of course," this theoretical person might think, "that's what would happen if a person sat like that on a ledge."

While I'm well aware that that's what it looks like when a person sits on ledge that way, I'm also accutely aware that Mega Man can stand just as comfortably with both feet on solid ground as with one foot halfway off a ledge and the other hovering over the abyss.

My point being that the more familiar one becomes with a subject, the more impressed he's likely to be with apparently minute aspects of it. On the other end of that spectrum, Alu and I have been looking into welding courses which would take a little over a year to complete and, being unfamiliar with welding, we're having difficulty wrapping our minds around what would take so long about learning to weld. I'm sure there must be far more to it than I realize, but from the outside it seems so simple.

I don't really have anything to say about this phenomenon, necessarily, I just thought it was interesting to think about.

This morning, I weighed 180.6 lbs

Yesterday, I ate:

~ An apple nutrigrain bar

~ A packet of pocky

~ A bowl of ramen

~ A bottle of soylent

~ 3 slices of pizza

We tried a new workout recently called Starting Strength which involves only three excersises to begin with (barbell squats, benchpress and deadlifts) and we did them with no weight to make sure we have proper form, but even still, we were unexpectedly beat when we were finished, so I think it's going to be a good workout. Wish us luck on it today.

Take it easy!
