British People Baking Stuff
Alu and I stumbled on The Great British Bakeoff on Netflix today and we're quite enamored with it. Cooking shows are something we've expressed enjoyment of before, but the overly dramatic nature of cooking competitions in the US prevents them from being as enjoyable. British television often seems to be significantly less dramatic and that's indeed the case here as well. It has a lot of the same elements that similar US shows use to coax drama out of situations, but they're used much more evenhandedly I think.
Today I weighed: 189.4
Yesterday I ate:
~ A bowl of Life cereal
~ A bowl of veggie spaghetti
~ Two leftover banana pancakes
~ A few carrot sticks in some spicy ranch
~ A plate of orange stir fry and noodles
A few years ago some of my friends and I found some episodes of the UK version of Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsey and decided to play them alongside US episodes. They're almost entirely different shows despite being about Gordon Ramsey going from restaurant to restaurant to help them get their acts together. A minute of Gordon sitting at a table quietly enjoying a bowl of soup contrasted quite harshly to a minute filled with smash cuts between him throwing things and yelling at people. It was a pretty interesting look at the differences there can be in different cultures, even when comparing one country to another which sprung from it.
Take it easy!
