Tiny Plastic Robots

It's been mentioned before that Alu and I build Gunpla. We recently bought an airbrush and I'm very excited to use it, due in no small part to the fact that I've been working on and off on a custom build I'm calling Tyranny for a few months now. It's mostly a kitbash at the moment (a combination of parts from existing models), but I'm working on making custom pieces for it out of plastic sheets and rods, which is precise work. Once all the pieces are properly built, they'll of course need to be painted so they don't just look like bits of white plastic, and hopefully the airbrush will assist in this. This morning, I weighed 189.1 lbs. Yesterday, I ate: ~ A bowl of life cereal ~ A thick eggo waffle ~ Five Buffalo tigers from Vertical Diner ~ Breakfast sandwich from same ~ A bowl of rice krispies ~ A bowl of corn chowder I haven't looked at Tyranny in a while, so I'm worried that the pieces I've cut aren't precise e...

British People Baking Stuff

Alu and I stumbled on The Great British Bakeoff on Netflix today and we're quite enamored with it. Cooking shows are something we've expressed enjoyment of before, but the overly dramatic nature of cooking competitions in the US prevents them from being as enjoyable. British television often seems to be significantly less dramatic and that's indeed the case here as well. It has a lot of the same elements that similar US shows use to coax drama out of situations, but they're used much more evenhandedly I think. Today I weighed: 189.4 Yesterday I ate: ~ A bowl of Life cereal ~ A bowl of veggie spaghetti ~ Two leftover banana pancakes ~ A few carrot sticks in some spicy ranch ~ A plate of orange stir fry and noodles A few years ago some of my friends and I found some episodes of the UK version of Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsey and decided to play them alongside US episodes. They're almost entirely different shows despite being about Gordon Ramsey going ...

Goal Reflection day: July 23rd-29th

Once again we will ne looking back at the last two weeks and how I probably failed to accomplish the goals I set for myself! Build my first PG Gunpla: Due 12/31/18 No progress, we keep saying we are going to practice with the airbrush, but as of now we still haven't Eat healthier: Ongoing I feel Rok and I have eaten better in the last two weeks than the preceding two but we aren't at peak health yet and I don't know if we will ever be Weigh in under 200: Due 12/9/18 I haven't really been making any progress on this, my weight goes down a couple pounds on day and I get excited but then the next I gain a 2.5 back. But I feel like I am slowly taking weight loss more and more seriously for my health and mental faculties Today I weighed: 219 Yesterday I ate: > A small bowl of Rice Krispies > Two Eggo cinnamon waffles > The rest of the Mac and Cheese > A bag of Cheetos > Two uncooked cookies > Three baked cookies Yesterday I drank: 81 oz...

A Day Off

Rok and I normally work on Saturdays at 10 am which is early for us, but today we got the day off. We got the day off because our work legally has to pay us eight extra hours for the 24th of July. And if you are in a bearably state to live in, the 24th is Pioneer Day in Utah and it is a state holiday. So our work emailed out to us that we have to take 8 hours of our schedule so they don't have to pay us extra money. So Rok and I have today off which was cool even though we don't get extra pay but hey it's better to take the time off on a day we don't want to work rather than have hours randomly assigned off for us. We mainly played video games all day. But around 1ish our friend Elias came over and we hung out for a while, we talked a lot and then went to the park across our house while Rok pushed me in a wheel chair. After that we came back to our house for a little longer than took Elias home. Then Rok and i played more video games. We were going to go swimming but ...

Concert Tonight

There isn’t really time to blog today due to a new gym schedule running some errands and a concert but today has been good so far and I hope that continues! Today I weighed: 219.6 lbs Yesterday I ate: > Homemade pineapple smoothie > A cup yogurt > A breakfast burrito > 6 carrot sticks > A breakfast burrito > Half of a banana pancake Yesterday I drank: 64 oz of water Gotta go the concerts almost started! Stay cool!

New Cage!

Yesterday I told you about our guinea pig in preparation for today! We ordered her a new cage and it came yesterday. Rok got it all put together and Jeeves seems to be enjoying herself. This new cage is a huge upgrade from what she had before. The shorter side of this cage is about as long as the large side of the previous one, and the longer side of this new cage is about a foot longer than that. Jeeves seems to really be enjoying her new cage and there is so much more room for her to run around in. Which she seems to actually be doing! Today I weighed:218 Yesterday I ate: >Most of a breakfast burrito >A banana >Chinese Noodles Amy meal Yesterday I drank: 52 oz of water We are trying to be better pet parents but sometimes it's hard to balance that with everything else in adult life, but I think today is a solid win for us as guinea pig parents! Stay cool

Jeeves

Rok and I have a pet guinea pig named Jeeves. Before you yell at us, yes we only have one but we have done research and by all appearances she is okay with being a single pig. She used to have a sister named Fritz but sadly she is no longer with us, but by that point Jeeves was an older pig and we didn't want to put her with a young pig who would probably annoy her, so we tested the waters to see if she was alright by herself and as long as we give her enough attention she seems to be okay with being a single pig. Today I weighed: 217.2 Yesterday I ate: > A small bowl of Rice Crispy Cereal > A small microwave bowl of Stouffers Mac and Cheese > 6 Carrot sticks > 1 yogurt cup > 1 serving of Amy's meals Chili Mac Yesterday I drank: 84 oz We got her a new cage, I will update you tomorrow on how she likes it. Until than: Stay cool

Board Game Night

On Tuesday's Rok and I play board games. We really like board games and enjoy playing them, but we weren't playing them a lot because we were always doing things or would just like to sit and play a video game instead. So we decided that we have to play a board game at least four times that month to be able to buy a new game at the end of the month, likewise we have to play a board game three times in three months to get an expansion to that particular board game. As a result we decided that we would set Tuesday's aside to enjoy each others company over a nice board game. So after work Rok will make dinner and I will get a board game all set up, get something put on and wait. Then over whatever Rok made we will enjoy a game or two and usually have John Mulaney on in the back ground. Tonight's dinner of choice is a simple Amy's meals Chili Mac, which is delicious by the way. And the chosen game is Pixel Tactics, a game which Rok really likes and has attempted to...

Getting Older

Hi, today has been a day so far. On Mondays Rok and i normally don't have much to do, but we clean my grandma's house every other Friday. Last Friday was supposed to be our day to clean but my grandpa's knee was bothering him, so we were asked to clean Monday. At the time it was no problem to us. Then Yesterday I got a text from my mom saying to call her ASAP, now I love my mom but sometimes she is a little dramatic. I had already taken a long break and several shorter ones over the day but the test said ASAP so I thought I should at least give it a chance. It turns out she was calling to tell me my grandpa went into the hospital and had surgery on his knee. So I will give her this one. (Short tangent: They way she told me I am likely to never forget. "They were going to drain his knee because they figured it was probably just some excuse liquid, but then puss and blood started coming out." Which to me is absolutely disgusting to think about.) But so that brings...

Goal Reflection Day: July 16-22

It's been a while since I last hosted goal reflection day and I can't remember a bunch of the goals I had, but I'll do my best to get as many as I can down here. I've let a lot of stuff slip for a bit, especially since the camping trip, so I'm going to need to ramp myself back up on some of these still. Keep the kitchen clean I think this is the one I've let go more than anything else. I'm planning on getting back on top of this tonight because I'm beginning to hate being in the kitchen again and that's not good for my next goal. Cook more I haven't been cooking as much as I probably should have, partially due to the previous goal, but I've also just let myself fall off on it in general. Again, if I can get the kitchen cleaned up, that should motivate me here at least somewhat. Meditate every night This is a new one, at least for this blog. I've wanted to get into doing this at a few points, but I've n...

Jobs and Diners

I've been in the same job for six years now. Alu and I work in a call center where we caption phone calls for hard of hearing clients who use a special phone with a screen. We basically type what we hear on one end of a conversation, and the words appear on their screen without them having to interact with us at all. As far as call center jobs go, it's nice because we don't actually have to talk to customers or, god forbid, cold call people, and it pays pretty decently for the type of work, but we have no particular interest in advancing here, so we're looking into other career options at the moment. Something that's caught my attention in that regard for a while now is manual machining. From what I can gather, it's basically like woodworking, except with other materials like metal and plastic, which sounds like it could be a lot of fun. Though I assume we'd be starting out making piles of bedsprings or something, but I think the skillset could definitely...

Where things start

It's neat to think about where something started small. Alu and I watch a lot of Gundam, as we've mentioned before, and we've started watching the original series. It has me thinking about how such a massive franchise, known all over the world, started as some guy's low budget cartoon that got cancelled halfway through but got saved by an audience it connected with. The difference is clear between the original show and its sequel series, Zeta Gundam, where Tomino, the creator of the show, had earned some trust and therefore was able to get a bigger animation budget and more control over the direction of the show.  Now that I'm thinking about it, the first three Gundam series followed a similar trajectory to that of the original Star Wars trilogy. The first is a pretty simple story about a kid with burgeoning psychic powers coming into his own and saving the world from space Nazis. Nobody really expected this to do well, let alone spawn legions of fans and a multi-...

Reading Books for Other People

I like voiceover work. I've done a few things for Fallout mods and abridged series and things, but nothing that's really taken off at all. I'd like to be able to do that kind of stuff for a living, but first I'll have to work on being consistent with it. I think my biggest problem is I pretty much drop it for months at a time, and obviously that's not the best for building a career. I've found a couple of websites recently where people set up audiobooks. One is called ACX, and I've heard a couple of people say they've gotten books up on Audible from there, so that could be neat. But I think I'll start with Librivox, which is more dedicated to public domain texts and readers are determined on a first-come first-serve basis regardless of skill or experience, so it sounds like a good practice run if nothing else. This morning, I weighed 191.6 lbs. Yesterday I ate: - A bowl of blueberry chex - Pasta - Pancakes - Eggs ...

Vegetables

I've never been a fan of vegetables, which is a shame because I'm aware that they're the healthiest thing you can eat most of the time. It makes it difficult to make healthy meals when the thing that makes them healthy is something I don't want to eat. I'm also not a fan of the idea of not liking food in general. It's so arbitrarily limiting for my body to just refuse to swallow certain foods for no good reason. I've been trying to find a way around that for a good while now, but I haven't figured anything out just yet. I've heard putting some carrots and broccoli on a pan and drizzling some oil and salt and pepper over them and baking them for a bit can help with that but we'll see. It's a bit embarrassing that I haven't tried something so simple yet, especially since I heard about that a while ago. This morning, I weighed in at 191.3 lbs. Yesterday, I ate: - A pineapple, strawberry and banana smoothie - A can of chili ...

Also I had a fake dentist appointment this morning, so that was cool

So I've had Danny Don't You Know stuck in my head for the last week or so. I like the song a lot, but it's a bit distracting when I'm trying to do anything else. Though if anyone feels like crying for less inspirational reasons, I highly recommend Mobile Suit Victory Gundam. Alu and I just finished it the other day and though the ending isn't quite as brutal as some other Gundam series, it might just feel that way because the tone of the whole series is pretty low. Next we're planning to come full circle and finish up Universal Century with the original series. We watched the movies to start, but figured we should watch the actual show before we moved forward on our quest to watch the entire franchise. This morning, I weighed in at 191.3 lbs. Yesterday, I ate - A bowl of Ore-o's - A bowl of Corn Chex - An ultimate grilled cheese from Café Zupas - A bowl of tomato basil bisque from same - A bread roll - Two Amy's cheese p...

Goal Reflection Day: July 2nd-14th

It's that time again, looking back at the last two weeks and how I have failed to accomplish my goals! Build my first PG Gunpla: Due 12/31/18 Rok and I have unpackaged and looked at the airbrush and played with it a little with no paint in it but we are planning to practice our skills tomorrow. Then we can get to our PGs. I am a little scared to start on mine though because this is perfect grade gunpla, it intimidates me, but I will get it done before years end! Pick out outfits for the week: Ongoing This one is pretty easy and I have been doing it enough that I will probably leave it out of goals in the next reflection day or two. Eat healthier: Ongoing I have not accomplished at all as you know. But the bad eating has made Rok and I see that we need to be better and eat healthier, hopefully we don't forget this lesson so soon. Weigh in under 200: Due 12/9/18 I have decided for my birthday present to myself I want to weigh under 200 pounds. I have bee...

Drawing Days

Today while at work Rok and I are having some drawing contests. The first was a picture of Toad from Mario games. Rok's I think was overall more accurate to the original in sizing and shape, besides the tiny arms. But mine I think had some solid shading and looks pretty good. The second contest was this picture of a dog from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I think this is where I really excelled. I had so much fun drawing and I love the end result. While Rok's didn't turn out quite as good or dog like they are both very good boys and deserve lots of love and attention! The third was Bub from Bubble Bobble. Neither of us were super pleased with our results and they both looked pretty scary until we filled in the pupils. But I think that we would get around the same score if we were going off of a scoring base. The little guy is pretty cute I just wish we could have done him justice. And the final drawing challenge was a picture of our beloved cat, Mont...

Friday!

Today is mine and Rok's other day off. I know it's a bit weird, but having a split weekend is both nice and frustrating. It means that we only ever have to work three days in a row, but also that we only ever have one day off at a time. Most of our friends get all of their stuff done on the first day of their weekend and then the second they can just relax, but with ours we have a bunch of stuff to do on Mondays and then by Friday we have gathered a new To Do List. We have thought about going back to a two day weekend but we like not having to work for more than three days better, and since things are dying down in the summer we are getting more free time to do stuff on our days off. Usually our weekdays are boring and mostly filled with work, so on our days off we try and do as little as possible, we have running plans for RPGs at our friends house on Fridays but other than that we try and just stay home and play video games. Some time to ourselves is always good. We usually...

Why is mangosteen evil?

So yesterday I barely drank any water. The reason is of mangosteen, which might just be me but is very gross. It started with Rok and I getting drinks at the gas station on the way to work. We didn't want to get really sugary ones so when we saw they had a couple Alo drinks we opted for those, they had two kinds Wheatgrass + Honey (which I got and is delicious) and Mangosteen + Mango (which Rok thought he would try out. So we get to work and Rok tries his and tells me about how gross it is, so I trade him and figure I can chug some drink if need be. So I open the bottle, it smells so bad, but I figure I should try it first. It tasted better than it smelled but still wasn't good. I spent the next couple hours struggling to drink this beverage, and by the time I finish it my stomach isn't feeling good. I blame this on the mangosteen but have little proof. Then we go to lunch and I wash the taste out of my mouth a little bit, but when we get back from lunch I can hardly dr...

Pizza Sins

Yesterday Rok and I's work provided a bunch of pizza for winning a contest against our other centers. Our friends had speculated that they bought one pizza per person who worked here. A bit of an exaggeration, but there was so much pizza. So Rok and I took it upon ourselves to eat about two and half pizzas between the two of us. At the time we were delighted by the pizza we ingested, but the longer the pizza sat in our bodies the more we regretted our choices. This really opened our eyes to the fact that we need to be better if that is something we can conceive as a good idea. We later went for a swim on our pool to try and feel better, we could do laps or anything because there was lots of children but we did feel better afterwards. We then didn't eat anything besides a smoothie for the rest of the night. Today I weighed: Just under 222 again Yesterday I ate: >An egg breakfast sandwich >About 7 cubes of watermelon >5 slices of pizza >A banana smoothie ...

Fire Emblem

Yesterday, Rok and I had our first day off of work as part of our normal schedule. So Rok and I took to playing Fire Emblem the entire day. Rok has liked Fire Emblem for quite some time but I have only recently picked it up but so far I am loving it. My first play through was Fire Emblem: Heroes, the mobile game which led me to want to play the full fledged version (The creators intentions I assume). So my first non-mobile play through is currently Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest. I got so in love with the game while we were up camping Rok and I were rotating DS' so I could continue playing. Rok is happy to see me enjoy something he himself loves so much. After playing only one game I can see really getting into the whole series as well. I still have two more Fates games and so many more in the series, I can't wait! Today I weighed: 221.5 lbs. Yesterday I ate:  >A couple bites of Vanilla Chex >A leftover slice of pizza >A couple pieces of leftover chee...

Back Home

It was Rok's turn to write last week, and while he didn't do it everyday, I am going to give him a pass since we were camping. But if he continues not posting on his weeks to post I will have to get on his case about it. But we both had a wonderful time, our family had ups and downs that week, but Rok and I agree that it is better to have a close family that has a number of bad days sprinkled in with the good than have a family that hardly ever talks except for a few times sprinkled throughout the year where good and bad times are more varied but are generally just awkward. Today I weighed: Just below 222 lbs Yesterday I ate: >Some bites of Vanilla Chex >An applesauce on the go packet >About 8 Ritz crackers >An Amy's TV dinner Chili Mac >Two slices of a Marco’s medium big cheese pizza >Far to much cheesy bread Yesterday I drank: 64 oz water Times can be good, times can be bad, but as long as you have people to call family and a place to call h...

Not Camping

Alu and I finally made it home and boy was that first night in our room hot. We've taken to putting our feet in buckets of cold water to lower core temperature and mitigate sweating. I'm hoping that once we get our weight down, we (particularly I) won't sweat so damn much. Anyway, it's our first full day back down and our first day back at work. I'm pretty ready to get back into routine, but I'm sure that will pass by next week. I'm also excited that I got a new High Grade Victory Gundam to build while I'm on calls. We've been on a hiatus in watching the series, but we should be starting it back up today, so that's a good time as well. All in all, I think this should shape up to be a solid day. This morning I weighed: 193.3lbs. Last week I ate: A bunch of camping food, much of which was made specially for Alu and I separately from the food for the rest of her family due to our unwillingness to eat meat, but a lot of it was just s'mores...

Still camping

I'm pretty excited to go home in a day or two. Camping and being away from things is nice, but I miss our bed and electricity and running water. I do like that we can gain an appreciation for those things by being away from them, so it will be good to get home and really take advantage of them, even if it's only for a bit. We also just got an airbrush for painting Gunpla, so we're looking forward to trying that out as well. I'll definitely have to post some pictures of our experiments. Anyway, I'm a bit dry for things to say today beyond my growing want for my shower and airbrush, so I'll cut this a bit shorter today. Take it easy!

More camping

As much as I enjoy camping, it's not without its drawbacks. Bugs are of course a common one. Less thought about, at least by me, is the disruption of one's everyday life. Of course, vacations can be fun and relaxing, etc., but they can also feel weird when you're used to a certain routine. As a result, instead of being relaxed and having a good time, a good deal of this trip has been spent frustrated with being on other people's schedules. I think as people start to go back down to the city, things should mellow out, so that should help. That said, being away from work is still a good time and Alu's family is a good bunch of people, so it's not bad by any means. We'll see how I feel tomorrow. Take it easy!

Camping

We've been up camping a couple days now. We get to be off work and outside for a whole week, so it's a pretty good deal. We also get more exercise than usual doing chores around the camp and our diet could be considered restricted since there's no restaurants or anything around so hopefully we can drop a bit of weight when we get back. Unfortunately we don't have scales up here and we're on vacation, so we won't be recording weight or food this week. These might also be shorter entries since I'm writing on my phone. That said, Take it easy!

Goal Reflection Day: June 25-July 1

I have not really talked about any of my goals like Rok did, I mainly just ranted about a couple of things so now is a good time for me to tell you some of my goals! Build my first PG Gunpla: Due 12/31/18 I have bought the model I will build but have not started yet.  Rok and I were waiting to start on our builds until after we saved up for an air brush to custom paint our kits as we build. We got the brush this Thursday and can’t wait to start our build. Pick out outfits for the week: Ongoing I have been picking out outfits for the week on Mondays (Laundry day). It makes getting ready in the mornings just that much easier. So far this goal is achieved. Eat healthier: Ongoing As you an tell I have not been meeting this goal.  Food tastes really good but I need to practice discipline still and start  eating healthier. Weigh in under 200: Ongoing I have been working towards this goal but not seriously enough. I need to clean up my diet still and exercise mo...
