CAMPING!!!

So everyday this week has basically been about not saying the same thing everyday. WE GET TO GO CAMPING! Every year since my older sister was a baby my mom's side of the family has gone camping. This year my sister gave birth and will be bringing her new baby up there, so it has all come full circle. So around the Fourth of July my mom and all of her siblings, their significant others and, more recently the older grandchildren (me being the youngest with my cousin Cookieface and my sister Roxii being the other two) tries to get as many days off as they can and we all go up for a week to enjoy each others company and nature. It started as a one time thing and then the next year they went camping again and then the next year, and now it is a tradition. This is my first year up that I have been a full time employee, so it was a bit harder to get time off and for a minute there I thought I wasn't going to. But I was able to get pretty much everyday off but one (it's only pret...

Friends New and Old

On Fridays Rok and I normally play games with one of our groups of friends, Rose and Axiom. The group has grown and shrunk and grown again. Now it is in a sort of friend limbo. On a similar not Rok and I did not know that people were joining until we showed up at the house to play and there were suddenly new people. While it is not our house I feel we should have been informed but we have made friends with the new players so it is all well for now. But this Friday we are having a new friend over along with his girlfriend. We had them over once before, when Rok and I didn't live together. So the options were a kind of gross basement with general junk around including an old TV's innards sprawled on the ground, or a also kinda gross basement with very low ceilings and a terrible roommate. We went with the former mainly due to Rok's roommates joining in on games (only one played more than one game). So this time it was important to me that when we invited them over we clarif...

Time Off Frustrations

At the start of the year Rok and I asked for yesterday and today off, Rok knew immediately that he had got the time off. I on the other hand had to wait five months to be told I couldn't have that time. I however was able to get a most of the time off earlier this week. So I am only working 2 hours today without him, which means minimum boredom. But it was still frustrating on the way to here, as the time off was approved last minute. But the worst part is that Rok feels bad about having the time off while I have to work and doesn't want to watch GDQ or anything without me, I am sure he will also be bored but it's only two hours and he has chosen to sit in the break room 20 feet from me. But we can't really talk so that is a drag but it isn't to long until we can leave. Today I weighed: 219 lbs. Yesterday I ate: > A couple bits of Trix cereal >  Half a yogurt cup > The other half of a cucumber > A small box of tomatoes >  Eggs on whole whea...

My Day

About a year ago I had two very bad days at the expense of Rok having two really good ones, we decided together that he would give me two days as repayment. But I have only had one thus far since we agreed and I have given up on getting a second one. Which makes me feel just a little bit like Rok doesn't care about it. I know he does bu it is hard to think otherwise after a year of chances/ A while ago he said he was having trouble thinking of things to do so I made him a list that he could pick and choose from or different parts of the day, but alas a year has come and gone and I have let it go. Today I weighed: 220 Yesterday I ate: > Half a bowl of vanilla Chex > scrambled eggs > 4 pineapple chunks > 4 watermelon chunks > About 1/3 brown of Mac and cheese from Noodles and Co. > About half a cucumber > A small box of tomatoes with ranch Yesterday I drank: 88 oz of water I know I am a little less upbeat and happy than Rok but one of us has to be ...

Work and Drawings

Lately at work Rok and I have started drawing co-op pictures to stave off the boredom. We like to play a drawing game where one of us folds a paper in half and draws half of a picture, leaving a little bit if the lines on the other half to continue the drawing blind. My favorite so far is a campoctopus. I liked it so much I colored it in. Today I weighed: 220 Yesterday I ate: > Half a bowl of Oreo Os > 1 rice crispy treat >2  yogurt cups > Some watermelon > 1 Amy’s meal enchiladas Yesterday I drank: 85 oz. water I hope these drawings continue but I always have to start the game. Leaving me thinking we will stop soon because Rok isn't into it. But only time will tell and until it does... ... Stay cool.

GMing a More Demanding Group

Awhile ago Rok had mentioned I was to GM a new campaign with some of our friends. Well we did eventually play, twice now! The first session didn't go very well in my opinion, but Rok has been ensuring me he thinks I did a good job. The second session went much better, possibly due to some delicious warm spiced mead. But that also caused as to play far later than we should have and made work on Saturday have a very rough start. Some reflection about the first two sessions: After the first one I didn't think I ever wanted to GM again and made no progress on the campaign. But after this second session I was given hope back, and I am ready to work on the campaign again. I even bought a nice notebook to write the campaign into. It's a thing I have seen some GMs do and I like the idea a lot. I will keep this updated how the sessions go as they continue or if they do. Today I weighed: 221 lbs. Yesterday I ate: >Almost a full bowl of vanilla chex >Too many toasty Cheez-...

New Writer and GDQ

Hi, I am Alucolor the girlfriend Roksys has been mentioning. Due to his not posting, because he doesn't have anything to say, I will be writing every other week from now on. I know this is supposed to be Goal Day but since this is my first post I hope you can forgive me that I start where I feel more comfortable. So to start I will talk about GDQ, aka Games Done Quick. Which started today and will be going to next Saturday. GDQ is a bi annual, week long live stream of speed runners playing games for charity. AGDQ, aka Awesome Games Done Quick, supports the Cancer Foundation. While SGDQ, aka Summer Games Done Quick, supports Doctors without Borders. All donations go directly to the charities, including a portion of the money from merch bought from sponsors of the live stream. I had never heard of GDQ in my life until I met Arthur, my first GDQ was SGDQ 2016 and I have tried to watch all the streams I could since, and often rewatch my favorite runs. This year I got all the time...

Goal Reflection Day: June 11-17

I've missed the last couple of days entirely, so not writing things ahead of time is off to a poor start, but I thought Goal Reflection Day would be particularly important to be consistent with. I've felt pretty good this week. E3 just came and gone, leaving behind the hype for a new Smash Bros. and Alu found out she's getting the time off that she requested in January, which means we get to attend her family's annual "But only this one time" Independence Day camping week, so good times. As for goals: Prep Lunch for Saturday: Ongoing I succeeded in prepping lunch ahead of time this week. Not much else to say here, but it's a good start. Get nook Checked Out: Incomplete - Deadline, June 11 This one fell through, unfortunately. It's bound to happen, but I'm trying to keep it as rare as possible. Keep Kitchen Clean: Ongoing The kitchen is staying clean enough to cook in with no hassle, which has indeed made it much more ...

Purpose

It's been a goal of mine for a while to determine my life's purpose. That is, the thing I feel I was born to do, whether or not predetermined purpose is real. (I don't think it is, by the way, but that's me.) If you'd like to read more about determining a life purpose in general,  Personal Excellence   is where the idea really solidified to me. Here's the thing about that though. Historically, I've been terrible at setting and achieving goals. I tend to be very easily distracted and I'm not a particularly motivated person overall. You may have noticed that theme cropping up over the last week or so, since I bring it up pretty often. So it's important to find ways to keep yourself motivated to stick to things. Something that's been helping me a bit lately is a phrase my dad used to tell me a lot: you can't buy discipline. The past few days, when I'm about to skip out on something or eat something I shouldn't, etc...

Cooking and General Inspiration

We've been watching a lot of Binging with Babish  on YouTube. I appreciate how detailed and straightforward his videos are and it makes me want to cook more. Watching people who seem to be where they want to be in life doing what they like doing is pretty inspiring to me. A large part of the reason I started this blog is that, assuming I can take a desirable path in life, I wanted that journey to be documented, both so that I could look back on my own progress and so others might see that progress and see that maybe they can get to where they want to be as well. It's easy to look at someone you idolize and think you could never get to where they are, but they had to start somewhere. Arnold probably wasn't jacked when he was a little kid, but at some point, he decided he wanted to be and after years of hard work, he got to be Mr. Universe and eventually the Terminator. So can the rest of us. That went in a weird direction that I didn't anticipate. This morning, I ...

On Nintendo

This entry doesn't really fit with the others I've made so far, but today being their E3 presentation day, it seemed as good a time as any to offer a couple of stories and some thoughts on Nintendo. I believe I was six years old when Mario Kart 64 was released. Like any kid at the time, I wanted it quite a bit, and on Christmas, I was elated to find a copy of Mario Kart placed under the tree by my grandma. Unfortunately, as my grandma was a rather stereotypical grandma, she had mistakenly purchased a copy of Super Mario Kart for the SNES, a console I did not own. This isn't to say I blame my grandma; she was just trying to give me a gift I would like for Christmas. Seeing my disappointment, she decided to call Nintendo customer service and explain the situation. They were extremely helpful and understanding and they agreed to take my copy of Super Mario Kart and mail me a copy of Mario Kart 64 in exchange, along with a letter apologizing for the mix-up (which is a bit odd...

Water and Streams

Alu and I have gone out of our way to get Mondays off, as that tends to be the busiest day at our job. Since most of our friends work Mondays, that's when we tend to have the fewest social plans, but that often means Mondays are when we do most of our running around. This can make it difficult to get proper nutrition and keep hydrated. The obvious solution to the latter is to carry a water bottle, but even when I have one with me, I have trouble remembering to use it. I'll need to make more of an effort to drink water on days off. This morning, I weighed Today, I ate ~ Here's what we did at the gym: ~ Most Monday nights, around 8pm Mountain Time, Alu and I try to stream for an hour or so on our Twitch channel, DateNightGames , for which I also run the Twitter feed. I haven't been tweeting on it much lately outside of notifying our one avid follower (Alu's mom) of impending streams. I'll have to put more effort into that as well. Take it easy!

Goal Reflection Day: June 4-10, 2018

Over the last week, I've mentioned a few specific goals of mine, and specific goals are often touted as key to self improvement. With that in mind, I've decided that Sundays will be Goal Reflection Day here on Getting a Life Together. What goals have I set for myself? Which of those have I worked toward or met? Should any of them change? These entries are likely to be somewhat longer and more segmented than others, I think. Goals From Last Week Get Kitchen Clean: Complete* I forgot to get before pictures of how gross our kitchen was, but it was pretty bad. It's not quite done yet and I'm not sure if it ever will be, really, but I've definitely made it much more pleasant to cook in at least. That was my major reason all along, so I'm counting this one as complete, though with an asterisk showing that it will need to be maintained, at the very least. Get Blog Set Up: Complete This one is pretty clearly complete, since you're reading it right ...

Saturdays

Saturdays can be a bit tough because we have to get an earlier start than usual. What makes it especially difficult from a nutrition perspective is that I often don't have time to make us lunch. Occasionally, I'll find time to make something ahead of time on Fridays, but we usually fall back on leftovers or the nearby Del Taco, which makes for a hectic lunch break. I'm making it a goal to be more consistent with making lunch for Saturdays. We had leftovers specifically set aside this week, but I'm not sure if that counts. This morning, I weighed 196.9 Today I ate ~ A Jamba juice watermelon smoothie ~ Half a bowl of cheesy pasta from Noodles ~ A cup of tomato basil bisque ~ Half an ultimate grilled cheese from Cafe Zupas ~ A bowl of ice cream ~ 14 Ritz crackers ~ Half an Amy's vegetable lasagna Here's what we did at the gym: ~ We swam in our apartment complex pool The nice thing about getting started earlier is that we finish earli...

Tiny Cat Kidneys

Our cat Monty has been getting over a kidney infection. As such, I had the privilege to learn how difficult it can be to make a cat swallow medication. We also had to learn to administer a subcutaneous fluid drip every few days to make sure he stays properly hydrated. Fortunately, he's been recovering well, drinking his water and eating his expensive, new medicated food. We took him into the vet today to make sure he's totally back to normal, but now we have to wait for a urine test to come back. At least we got his vaccinations and stuff renewed, so that's good. This morning, I weighed 195.8 Today I ate ~Three small chocolate covered muffin tops ~A pull apart twizzler ~Half a bowl of cheesy pasta from Noodles ~A cat mug of ice cream ~An Amy's pesto tortellini bowl ~Two slices of cheese pizza On an unrelated note, I've been cleaning up our kitchen and I'm hoping to keep it that way this time. I suspect a tidy kitchen will make cooking less of a cho...

RPG Limbo

Alu and I like tabletop RPGs. She's currently prepping to run a campaign using Cypher System  and I've been reading through the book for Fragged Kingdom . Lately though, life has been getting in the way of actually being able to play any of these and, as fun as it can be to prep campaigns and read through lore, it can be rather frustrating not to be able to do anything with any of that. On Thursdays, we set aside time after work for RPG prep, but Alu has been working on the first session of her campaign for weeks now because we haven't been able to play. Good times. This morning, I weighed 196 lbs. Today I ate ~ A 24 oz. fruit smoothie with kale ~ A serving of veggie spaghetti with mozzarella ~ A rice krispy treat ~ A cup of tomato basil bisque ~ A bowl of ice cream ~ Shared a brownie with Alu Tomorrow should be Alu's GM day. Wish us luck! Take it easy!

Workouts and Taco Bell

On Wednesdays, Alu and I try to swim laps at the gym after work. Unfortunately, this can prove difficult, as we leave our call center job pretty late every night, so we generally just want to go home. On a related note, we've placed a hard limit on our visits to Taco Bell per month, so we often use that as an incentive, which probably defeats the purpose somewhat. In any case, on days when we actually do make it to the gym, I'll post work out logs in addition to the daily food and weight logs. This morning, I weighed 195.6 lbs. Today I ate: ~ A 28 ounce smoothie, comprised of fruit, berries, broccoli, almond milk, peanut butter and orange juice ~ A caramel sea salt frozen yogurt bar ~ A cup of coffee with slightly less cream and sugar in it than the one from yesterday ~ A slice and a half of leftover pizza (that's the last of it, by the way) ~ A Taco Bell cheesy bean and rice burrito ~ Two Taco bell loaded potato grillers Here's ...

Starting Off

Hi! I'm Roksys. I have a girlfriend named Alucolor and we're trying to get our lives together. We're lazy and unmotivated, so I'm hoping that starting this journal will help to keep us more accountable, and hopefully I can manage to make it at least sort of interesting sometimes. If nothing else, I plan to post a weight for myself and a food log every day, but I'd like to write a bit more most of the time. That said, as of this morning, Tuesday, June 5, 2018, I am 5'7" tall and 197 lbs. Today, I have eaten ~ A 22oz. smoothie, comprised of fruit, berries, almond milk, orange juice and peanut butter ~ A cup of coffee with far too much cream and sugar ~ A slice and a half of leftover pizza ~ 7 Ritz crackers w/ cream cheese ~ Three scoops of Oreo/Chips Ahoy ice cream with Reese's shell ~ Veggie and jasmine rice stir fry I don't want to write too much in one entry, both so anyone reading this doesn't get overwhelmed/bored, and so I don...
